GAYNEWSPULSE was inspired by the powerful and historic speech given by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the topic of Gay Rights Abroad.
United Nations LGBT Speech In Geneva – December 6th, 2011.
The equality of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people is one of the largest remaining human rights issues of our time. Although many challenges lay ahead in combating the discrimination of members belonging to the LGBT community, we are well on our way in beginning a new era of progress for our future and generations to come.
Government officials around the world continue to fight in the efforts to protect members of the Gay community, along with implementing laws within our societies which teach individuals how to treat others with respect and dignity.
As it is critical to ingrain a fundamental understanding of tolerance led by larger institutions, the greater responsibility rests on the actions of individuals to set examples in their community and lead the movement.

HISTORY OF THE GAY FLAG
By jacquesno3 on February 7, 2010
In 1978, Gilbert Baker of San Francisco designed a flag with six stripes representing the six colors of the rainbow as a symbol of gay and lesbian community pride. Slowly the flag took hold, offering a colorful and optimistic alternative to the more common pink triangle symbol. Today it is recognized by the International Congress of Flag Makers, and is flown in lesbian and gay pride marches worldwide. In 1989, the rainbow flag received nationwide attention after John Stout successfully sued his landlords in West Hollywood, when they prohibited him from displaying the flag from his apartment balcony. Meanwhile, Baker was still in San Francisco, and still making more flags.
